What video quality will I get when downloading?

The downloader is designed to grab videos in the highest quality your Niconico account tier allows. Premium subscribers will be able to access high-bitrate streams, while free accounts will get standard quality subject to economy-hour limits.

Can I batch download an entire mylist playlist?

Yes, batch downloading from mylist playlists is intended. When you navigate to a mylist page, the extension will detect all videos and let you queue them for processing, preserving titles and video IDs.

Will Japanese titles and metadata be kept in the downloaded files?

The downloader is expected to preserve original Japanese titles, tags, and Niconico video IDs such as sm/nm numbers. This way your offline library stays organized with the same identifying information you see on the site.

How does the downloader handle Niconico's DASH format?

It will automatically merge separate audio and video streams from Niconico's DASH delivery into a single ready-to-watch file. This built-in merging is planned to work seamlessly, so you do not need extra tools.

Will this work on my Linux computer?

Yes, the extension is planned to work on Linux through supported browsers. It will be available for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, and Opera across Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems.

Do I need to be logged into Niconico to download videos?

Yes, after installing the extension you will need to sign into your Niconico account. This session authentication is intended to give you access to content authorized for your account, including member-only and premium videos.

Will I be able to retry failed downloads automatically?

A download queue with automatic retry on failure is being developed. When a download fails due to a temporary issue, the queue will attempt it again without requiring you to restart the process manually.

Can I choose MKV output instead of MP4?

MP4 is the planned default output, but an optional MKV container is intended for advanced subtitle embedding. This flexibility would let you decide which format best suits your offline playback setup.

Comment overlay export preserves the Niconico experience cleanly

The comment export is what makes this special. I archive Vocaloid music videos from Niconico and the scrolling comments are half the experience. The ASS subtitle export reproduces them cleanly in MPV.

Invaluable for Japanese language study from Niconico

I study Japanese and Niconico is a goldmine for learning material. This downloader saves videos with the original Japanese titles and sm IDs so I can find them again later. The batch mylist download is incredibly useful.

Premium quality downloads with proper DASH handling

I have a Niconico Premium account and this actually downloads at the premium quality tier. Other tools I tried were limited to economy quality. The DASH stream merging handles Niconico's format without any desyncs.
