How will the extension detect videos on a page?

It is planned to scan nbc.com pages for embedded video players across news, entertainment, and sports sections. Once a player is detected, it will display available quality options.

What quality options will be available for download?

The extension will show available quality tiers, including resolution, format, and estimated file size. Options are expected to be limited to what NBC provides for each clip.

Can I download multiple videos at once?

No, the tool is being developed to handle one download at a time. There are no plans for batch or queue features at this stage.

Will the extension work on browsers other than Chrome?

It is intended to be compatible with Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, Opera, Whale, and Yandex. Safari and mobile browsers will not be supported.

How will downloads be named and organized?

Downloaded files will be named with the segment title for easy organization. This naming convention is designed to help you manage your archive.

What happens if I close the tab during a download?

The download will be interrupted. You will need to keep the tab open until the progress indicator shows completion, as the assembly process is planned to rely on the active session.

Will the extension include any tracking or analytics?

No, it is intended to have zero analytics. Only licence verification will touch remote servers, ensuring your activity remains private.

How will I know when a download finishes?

Desktop notifications will be provided on download completion or error. This is planned so you can focus on other tasks without constant monitoring.

About NBC Downloader

NBC Downloader scans nbc.com pages for embedded video players across news, entertainment, and sports sections. It lets you capture investigative features and news specials before they cycle out of the feed. This ensures you always have access to the stories that matter most.

Once you open a video segment, the extension displays available quality tiers with resolution, format, and estimated file size. You can choose the option that balances clarity and storage. The download assembles HLS/DASH streams into a unified MP4 file on your device, named with the segment title for easy organization.

Review clips offline during commutes, travel, or in areas with poor connectivity. The process is private, with zero analytics—only licence verification touches remote servers. Desktop notifications confirm completion, so you can focus on building your archive without constant monitoring.

Clean output, solid UX

Tested the free downloads on a couple of Dateline clips. Clean MP4 output, no quality loss, and the progress tracker is genuinely useful.

Good for offline sharing

I save TODAY show segments for my parents who live in a rural area with limited internet. They can watch offline anytime now.
